Welcome back to Shakespeare on the Vine Theatre Company! We are thrilled you joined us tonight for our return to live theatre. This summer, we embrace our roots. We are back on the Hilltop Stage, and you are seated in the grass which ushered in our first audiences seven years ago. We are approaching comedy fiercely and frolicking in the breadth of Shakespeare’s work. We welcome you to heal with us through laughter and improvise in the face of life’s chaos.
All businesses, and especially the arts, suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since March of 2020, I have learned to focus on what is important in life: family, love, and art. We never know when these will be threatened. Yet, this perilous state holds the beautiful mechanics of comedy—pure hysteria drawn from uncertainty and confusion. All of us have worked so hard to return to what is important to us.
That is what Shakespeare on the Vine Theatre Company stands for—working passionately on the art we love with our family. Whether the art at present is gut-rolling comedy or breath-taking tragedy, we could not do what we love without you.
Even after a cancelled show and two lost fundraisers, the outpouring of support this summer is remarkable. When this vision began at Brice Station Vineyards, I didn’t know what was to come, what storms we would weather. But here we are. Let us love art and endure hardship. Let us drink and laugh as family. Thank you for supporting tonight’s benefit show.
